LEARN ABOUT THE ST. MARY'S RIVER MARINE HERITAGE CENTRE!
The Organization
Travel back to the time when isolated communities depended on the Norgoma to travel throughout the Turkey Trail delivering a variety of supplies for everyday life in rural communities.
The St.
Mary’s River Marine Heritage Centre is an incorporated not-for-profit
charitable organization established in 1981. The Centre is operated
by a volunteer Board of Directors and one of the primary projects
for the past several years has been the operation of the museum
ship Norgoma.
Currently the M.S. Norgoma is a “vessel under restoration”.
Dedicated volunteers have maintained and operated the vessel on
a break-even basis for the past twenty one years.
The organization is always in need of those people who are willing
to spend a few hours a week donating their time.
The St. Mary’s River Marine Centre is currently embarking
on the first phases of a major multi-phased project that will restore
the Norgoma. The vessel will be restored and renovated as a “living
exhibit” as close as possible to its original condition as
an operating passenger ship and packet freighter.
