M.S. Norgoma Refreshes Board with Young Professionals

Sault Ste. Marie – The St. Mary’s River Marine Heritage Centre (SMRMHC) is excited to announce that it has recently grown its governing Board of Directors with the addition of three(3)young professionals from within our community. Joining the Board of Directors are Molly Frenette, William Hollingshead, and Julia Victoria Piskiewicz.

Molly Frenette, is an Employment Advisor with the Employment Network, a division of Community Living Algoma. In her professional role, Ms. Frenette has worked with the SMRMHC Board of Directors to provide summer employment opportunities for youth in our community and will continue to coordinate these opportunities as a member of the Board. Ms. Frenette has also taken on the responsibility of Treasurer of the Board.

William Hollingshead, is the Heritage Programmer at the Ermatinger-Clergue National Historic Site. Mr. Hollingshead has worked in museums and galleries for 6 years throughout Ontario and sits on a variety of boards including: Steering Committee for Regional Museum Networks with the Ontario Museum Association, Acting Co-Chair of the North Shore Cultural Attractions Network, Vice Chair for the Group of Emerging Museum Professionals, and various other cultural and heritage committees. Mr. Hollingshead’s interests and strengths lie in outreach programming, strategic planning, exhibition planning & design, and volunteer management.

Julia Victoria Piskiewicz, is the Director/Curator at the Sault Ste. Marie Museum and brings with her a wealth of knowledge on Museum administration, management, and curatorship. Ms. Piskiewicz was recently awarded the 2018 Top Industry Leader in Arts & Culture in the District of Algoma by Strive Young Professionals Group.

These new members help to diversify the Board and more accurately represent our community and the needs of the M.S. Norgoma. As young professionals, they bring various skill sets, qualities, and specialized strengths that will ensure the proper governance and prospering of the St. Mary’s River Marine Heritage Centre.

The Board of Directors sees the importance and prospects of the MS Norgoma becoming a jewel of the Sault Ste. Marie waterfront in its prominent central location, and these new Board members will help accomplish this.

The Museum Ship Norgoma is owned and operated by the St. Mary’s River Marine Heritage Centre, a non-profit charitable organization, tasked with telling the story of the St. Mary’s designated Heritage River on the historic Norgoma ship.
